Made for anglers who expect more from every cast

Nomad Design creates premium saltwater fishing lures engineered for serious anglers who demand reliability, strength, and consistent action. Every product is developed through extensive on-water testing, helping you target and catch fish in some of the world's toughest fishing conditions. From inshore trolling to offshore casting, Nomad Design lures are built to perform under pressure. Advanced materials, proven construction systems, and precise tuning ensure each fish lure swims true, holds its line, and maintains balance even at high speeds or after repeated strikes. When conditions are unpredictable and the fish are unforgiving, Nomad delivers performance you can trust.

Saltwater lures with intentional, innovative design

Innovation driven by real-world fishing

Nomad Design products are engineered to perform exactly as anglers expect. Every shape, bib angle, and internal weight system is carefully designed to produce consistent action across a wide range of retrieve speeds and water conditions. Rather than relying solely on theory, Nomad lures are tested extensively by experienced anglers targeting wahoo, tuna, kingfish, GTs, and other powerful pelagic species. This real-world approach ensures reliable swimming action, accurate tracking, and dependable performance whether you're casting structure or trolling open water.

Every product is built to withstand the fight

Strength, balance, and durability combined

Durability is critical when targeting aggressive saltwater species, and Nomad trolling lures feature innovative designs that handle extreme pressure. Reinforced bodies, full-through wire construction, and impact-resistant materials ensure strength is never compromised, even during prolonged fights. Protective finishes and advanced construction systems help Nomad plastic and metal lures maintain their integrity and appearance over time, reducing damage from teeth, structure, and repeated use. The result is a fishing lure that performs cast after cast and continues to deliver confidence long after the first strike.

Born from real-world fishing

Fifteen years of charter fishing led to innovative design

After more than fifteen years operating Nomad Sportfishing Adventures in the remote NE Coast of Australia, founder Damon Olsen and the Nomad Design team crafted a range of unique lures for the toughest predators. Targeting giant trevally, thousand pound black marlin, and huge dogtooth tuna in the Coral Sea, they found gaps in the market and products simply not up to the job. Not willing to settle, Damon put his engineering background to work, developing lures that would perform perfectly for the most demanding bluewater predators.

Tested in the toughest conditions

Years of development and real-world testing

The first four lure models - Madscad, Riptide, Chug Norris, and Maverick - went through a rigorous three-year design and testing process. This led to the development of Matrix Metal plate and Gorilla Through Wire designs for ultimate strength, along with HD ABS plastic bodies and foam filling. The Nomad Design logo guarantees that every product has been tested to withstand the toughest fishing conditions, with years of on-water experience applied to make your fishing more fun and rewarding.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions: Nomad fishing

Practical answers to common questions about choosing, rigging, and fishing Nomad Design lures in saltwater conditions.

Nomad Design lures are built specifically for demanding saltwater conditions, with heavy-duty construction and hardware designed to handle aggressive strikes from powerful fish like tuna and kingfish. Many models feature Nomad's triple shield protection for improved durability and corrosion resistance. These quality products maintain consistent swimming action across diverse speeds, giving anglers an effective fishing experience in both offshore and inshore lure applications.
Start by choosing a lure designed for the species you're targeting. Your selection should also mimic the size and shape of local baitfish, as predators often target the most common prey in the water. For fast pelagic species, high-speed new trolling lures such as the Nomad Madmacs or DTX Minnow are designed to cover water quickly and trigger reaction strikes. When fishing closer to shore, casting stickbaits like the Madscad imitates injured baitfish near the surface, which triggers aggressive strikes from predatory fish on the surface or just below it. For more options, see the Ridgeback and Squidtrex Max.
Most Nomad lures are designed to swim correctly straight out of the box. The weighting and internal design help the lure track straight during trolling or casting. If a lure ever tracks slightly off, a small adjustment to the tow point can help fine-tune its action before you begin fishing. Always test beside the boat before committing to a long troll.
Nomad poppers and stickbaits perform best with medium-heavy to heavy tackle capable of handling strong saltwater fish. A quality rod paired with braided line and a durable leader helps maximise casting distance and control during aggressive strikes. Surface lures like the Chug Norris are designed to create loud splashes and surface commotion that attract predatory fish from a distance. Read our beginner's guide to catching kingfish on topwater.
Trolling speed affects both lure action and how deep a diving lure runs. Many diving minnows perform best at moderate speeds, but some are built for much faster trolling. The Nomad Madmacs 200mm can be trolled up to 20 knots, with strong performance often around 6-12 knots. The Nomad DTX Minnow 200mm and 125mm and 110mm typically perform best between 2-9 knots, where they maintain a stable action as they dive below the surface. Larger models such as the DTX Minnow 220mm HD and 165mm suit deeper trolling setups. See also our smarter tuna spread guide. Adjusting your trolling speed helps keep the lure swimming properly and at the right depth to attract feeding fish.
After each trip, rinse lures thoroughly with fresh water to remove salt, sand, and any fish bait residue, then allow them to dry before storing. Regularly check hooks and split rings for corrosion or wear. Proper maintenance helps preserve the quality, finish, and hardware, and ensures your fishing lures are ready to go when you are.
