How To Maintain A Foam Lifejacket

Foam lifejackets don’t require much maintenance, but a little bit of care will help them last a long time. Here are our top tips for making them last:

1. Clean after use

Salt water causes corrosion so it’s best to hose off your lifejackets with fresh water and some Salt Slayer after using your lifejacket around salt water. Make sure to let it fully dry before storing.

2. Store in a dry place

Make sure to store your lifejacket in a dry, well ventilated place that is out of direct sunlight. This is to prevent the material or foam disintegrating from rot or UV damage. Also, make sure they are fully dry before you put them into storage.

3. Preform regular visual inspections

At least once a year, inspect your lifejacket for signs of deterioration including rips, tears, sun damage, mold, broken zips or buckles, corrosion or damaged webbing.

4. Check the fit

If it’s been a while since you last used your lifejacket, try it on and check it still fits before heading out. This is especially important for children as they are growing!

If your lifejacket is damaged or showing signs of disintegration or aging, it is time to get a new one. The price of a new lifejacket isn’t much compared to your safety.
