Answer The Question

How long should my 6mm galvanized anchor chain last before rust starts showing ? I have a 30' keel boat and the anchor gets used regularly while cruising in Feb and March, and sits in the anchor well the rest of the time,
Question by: Gun Caundle on 13/11/2021, 8:32 am
Galv chain wear can vary greatly depending on usage and conditions. Generally a manufacturing fault will crop up very soon after initial use. Otherwise use of a winch gypsy and/or rocky mooring grounds can increase chain wear. If the chain is less than 2 years old please send us pictures to website@burnsco.co.nz and we will investigate further.

Answer The Question

Hi, will the 6mm chain function correctly with the Maxwell HRC6-FF windlass? Seems you don’t sell the 6mm version, only the 7mm which I’m guessing again is for US 1/4” chain likely called 7mm here?
Question by: Ryan Daniel on 22/11/2023, 7:32 pm
Yes -
Use short link chain: 6mm (HRC6), 7mm (HRC7), 8mm (HRC8)
•Use nylon rope (3 strand or multi-plait): 12mm (HRC6 and 7), 14mm (HRC8)
