I assume this is suitable for a vehicle roof? There is a reasonable gap between my roof and ceiling - how far does this unit reach down into the vehicle?
Also, can this vent be opened and closed, or is it permanently open?

Yes these are designed for vehicles, campers and boats. Yes it can be wound open or closed a total of approx 45mm (less thickness of roof)
